CCGP supports PacBio’s new sequencing system

In late 2024, PacBio approached the CCGP to help test their new Vega benchtop sequencing system using leftover libraries from our reference genome projects. The Vega system aims to make HiFi sequencing more accessible to individual researchers and labs by offering the same quality as the Revio system but with lower overall system costs and a capacity better suited to smaller-scale projects. This makes it ideal for labs with limited sample demand or for piloting projects before scaling up. Five species, representing a diverse range of taxa with sufficient input material, were selected for testing, and three were successfully sequenced. All three samples produced high-quality results, reaching the system's maximum output of 64.9 Gb per run. While the Vega's typical performance is 50–60 Gb, this outcome highlights the system's potential for consistent, high-output sequencing. This collaboration highlights the benefits of making efficient use of available resources and fostering cooperative efforts with our partners.
